Renewable energy can meet 66% of Portugal's electricity demand from January to July

Data from the Portuguese power company Redes Energeticas Nacionais (REN) shows that the production of renewable energy is sufficient to meet 66% of Portugal's electricity consumption from January to July 2021.


Hydropower and wind energy contribute the most, accounting for 30% and 26% of demand, respectively. Biomass energy followed closely with 7%, and photovoltaics accounted for 3.3%. The monthly output of solar photovoltaics exceeded 200 GWh for the first time.
